PURPLE ALBUM COVER RECREATION

about this design.

The prompt for this project was to take one of our favorite albums and recreate the cover, back cover, and inner decal for the vinyl.

For my record, I chose one of my all-time favorites, “Purple” by Stone Temple Pilots. The album was released in June 1994 and boy, does it sound so. The album overall makes you want to roll down your windows, crank the radio, and just drive. I really wanted to show that in this piece, so I used my own photography of old cars that were in a lot by my house. I really texturized these images because the album itself has so much texture, so much dimension and feel. I used a script type face that I felt had a quickness to it, almost like it was just jotted down in a notebook somewhere and put on a shelf. The inner decal for the vinyl is just an image of the band with a purple overlay to represent the album cover. This was one of my favorite projects, the final printed piece actually features a purple colored vinyl I did as well.
