SUBLIME WOOD TYPE POSTER

about this design.

This is a concert poster that I designed as part of a project that was to pay homage to the wood type era of design in the late 1800s to early 1900s. I wanted to use bold colors and very bold type faces to show the feel of the band. The poster is promoting the “40 oz. to Freedom World Tour”, a tour to bring publicity to their album with the same name. I used an image of the band and had to include their iconic on stage mascot, Lou Dog. I wanted to use instances of arching the text and kind of blocking off areas specifically for text, since that’s how it would’ve been done in the time period. I chose to illustrate some flowers around the edges of the image, they have a lot of imagery synonymous with flowers and on this album there is a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias”, so that also influenced the choice. The band hails from Long Beach, California, so I wanted to use colors that are representative of that scene, wild, out there, and colorful.
